Instagram is a social networking site where users can share photos and videos and is owned by Meta Platforms. Users are able to submit media files that can be geotagged, altered with filters, and arranged with hashtags. Public or pre-approved followers can view posts. Users can follow other users to add their stuff to a personal feed, view trending content, like images, and browse other users' content by tags and places.[8] It is a meta-operated, image-focused social media network that can be accessed online, on Windows 10, iOS, and Android devices. Users can snap pictures, use additional tools and built-in filters to alter them, and then post the edited images to other social media sites.

From 2020 until the present: New attributes
Instagram introduced a new feature named "Co-Watching" in March 2020. Users can now exchange posts with each other during video conversations thanks to the new feature. Instagram claims that they accelerated the Co-Watching debut to address the need for virtual connections with loved ones in light of the COVID-19 pandemic's social distancing effects.

Instagram started to shift its focus to video in August 2020 and unveiled a brand-new function named "Reels". The goal was to rival TikTok, a website that allows users to share videos. In August 2020, Instagram also introduced suggested posts. Instagram shows users posts from accounts they do not follow that are relevant to their interests after they have scrolled through the previous 48 hours' worth of posts.

Instagram started testing a new feature in February 2021.
